Who is steph strauss?
As a Somatic Practitioner, Embodied Movement Facilitator, Mindfulness Meditation Teacher, Yoga Teacher and Buddhist Practitioner, my mission is to guide clients towards finding safety within and developing resources to cultivate a compassionate relationship with themselves and their body. Through my own experience, I’ve discovered that by connecting to the body in the present moment, we can access our inner wisdom and natural capacity for self-healing, leading to a deeper sense of wholeness.
In my private SE Exploratory Sessions, I integrate a rich blend of body-centered practices, including Somatic Experiencing, parts work, polyvagal theory, embodied movement, breathwork, mindfulness meditation and Buddhist concepts. This flexible, trauma-informed approach is personalized to meet each client’s unique needs, offering a space for deep self-discovery, exploration and growth.
In my weekly online embodied movement practices, The RSI Method, I weave together a dynamic blend of body-centered approaches, including elements of Somatic Experiencing, yoga, dance, vocal activation and breathwork. This trauma-informed and experiential method focuses on listening to the body’s signals and fostering a deeper connection with yourself in the present moment. It encourages participants to explore self-expression, cultivate body awareness, develop self-compassion and engage with their nervous system in a way that promotes regulation and healing without needing to engage in past trauma. You’ll have the freedom to move at your own pace, receive support and connect with others in a brave, non-judgmental space.
These body-oriented practices often bring about profound transformations in areas such as health, relationships, career and overall well-being, fostering a greater sense of purpose, aliveness and fulfillment.
It would be my privilege to support you in exploring your inner world and demonstrating how healing through the body and gaining greater access to joy, is not only possible but within reach.
May you consider the possibilities of where your body can lead you.
The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.
Carl Jung
here’s my truth.
I didn’t realize I lived in a body until November 2020. That’s right—I was 39 years old. The body that I live in and will be in for as long as I take my last breath. My sweet body, my home, my vessel, my temple.
I came to this realization long after I had already completed two 200-hour Yoga Teacher Trainings (2012 and 2018), a Yoga Sculpt Training (2016) and a 100-hour Meditation Teacher Training (2019). Despite years of body-based trainings, I still didn’t make the connection.
Sure, they were a starting point, but I used to force my body to do things, push it beyond its capacity and override its messages. I made my body eat things and wear things to look a certain way to be liked and accepted.
Bless this part of me that just wanted to belong. Back then, I didn’t talk to my sweet body the way I talk to her now—with respect and kindness.
How did I realize I live in a body?
During Covid, when EVERYTHING WENT ONLINE, I was introduced to many new methods and practices. One day, a Facebook ad for The Class caught my eye. It was my time to discover this body-based practice, which I like to call a spiritual workout to get out of the head and into the body—a concept I had never encountered in any of the yoga or fitness classes I had attended over the past eight years. I was accustomed to the instructor telling my body what to do, believing they knew what was right for me and my body.
The Class was different. While there were times when the instructor guided my movements, there were also moments of complete freedom—moments of making sounds, shaking and experiencing my body in ways I never had before. These moments brought me closer to my body, allowing me to learn what my body wanted instead of being told what to do.
During this time, I was also introduced to my teacher, Moun D’Simone, who’s influence has been transformative. Moun introduced me to Tibetan Buddhism and helped me discover and love my ever-changing body. Moun was the first teacher to have me slow down my movement. I remember it clearly—the song she played was "Higher Than The Mountains" by Sam Garrett. As I slowed down, tears flowed and I stood there, holding myself with a gentle sway. This was a simple yet profound moment for me. It felt as though my body was communicating with me, saying, “It’s okay to slow down, it’s okay not to move to burn calories. It’s okay to just be and discover what needs attention, expression and exploration."
Since then, I continue to receive messages from my sweet body, always clear as day. I have learned to honor, trust and welcome these messages. This journey has been a beautiful unfolding—so profound that it has often moved me to tears. This new relationship and connection with my body have been nothing short of extraordinary, marking an incredible revelation in my evolving journey. The way in and out is through the body.
Back to Moun…because there’s more. From a Buddhist perspective, Moun embodies the essence of a Modern Dakini—a woman in her power, heart open, filled with courage, expressing herself authentically, practicing, growing and healing. She sees life as her practice and shows up as her truest self in every single moment, even if it makes others uncomfortable. Moun not only talks the talk but walks the walk, inspiring me to do the same. Through her teachings, I've learned to trust and rely on myself, realizing that the answers lie within. I am the path, the practice and the potential.
These experiences, both simple and deeply meaningful, have shaped how I guide and support my clients—through somatic exploration, embodiment, curiosity and moments of quiet reflection. I meet each moment as it unfolds, trusting in its natural timing. All that’s required is curiosity and compassion toward whatever emerges.
Moun played a significant role in inspiring me to develop an embodied movement practice that is called The RSI Method, which later led me to explore Somatic Experiencing (SE). The RSI Method evolved from my personal movement and meditation practices, shaping its structure and methodology over time. Without Moun's unwavering support and belief in me, I doubt this method would exist today. It may surprise you, but it took me over a year to feel confident enough to share this method with others. My self-doubt caused a year-long delay until I began discussing it with Moun.
This kind of support is crucial on our healing journeys—a cheerleader, a guide, a mentor who sees and encourages your worth, enoughness and potential. Moun embodies all of this for me.
Whether it's Moun, myself or someone else, I hope you find such a person on your own exploration. Healing isn't meant to be done alone; we need the presence of an empathetic other.
All this to say, these experiences sparked my deeper curiosity about the body, ultimately leading me to offering you SE Exploratory Sessions. It's remarkable how RSI and SE compliment each other seamlessly.
In essence, The RSI Method and SE Exploratory Sessions emerged from my journey of exploration and curiosity, supported by mentors like Moun, embodiment and moments of stillness.
May you consider the possibilities of where your body can lead you.
